At my university, the leadership team is required to take the Strengths Quest test - and the above picture shows my top five strengths for this year. Last year, my top five were: Input, Empathy, Positivity, Ideation and Intellection. Last year, I didn't agree with/understand my top strength of "Input" at all. As the year went on, however, I saw that strength being utilized a lot more and it started to make more sense that it was my number one.
Now, after having taken the test for this year, I once again don't agree with/understand my top strength of "Strategic". Its theme description is:
"The Strategic theme enables you to sort through the clutter and find the best route. It is not a skill that can be taught. It is a distinct way of thinking, a special perspective on the world at large. This perspective allows you to see patterns where others simply see complexity. Mindful of these patterns, you play out alternative scenarios, always asking, “What if this happened? Okay, well what if this happened?” This recurring question helps you see around the next corner. There you can evaluate accurately the potential obstacles. Guided by where you see each path leading, you start to make selections. You discard the paths that lead nowhere. You discard the paths that lead straight into resistance. You discard the paths that lead into a fog of confusion. You cull and make selections until you arrive at the chosen path—your strategy. Armed with your strategy, you strike forward. This is your Strategic theme at work: “What if?” Select. Strike."Hm. I can see how some of the things mentioned pertain to myself, but others...not so much (at all). With my new position within the leadership team as Publicity Coordinator, I'm sure that I will be challenged in new ways, and that this strength will thus grow to make more sense and be utilized well throughout the year (God's always got a plan!)
These next few weeks leading up to leadership training at school will continue to be bittersweet: I have absolutely loved my job this summer and living with my incredible second family, but I also look forward to moving in with with some of my best friends this year! Here's to making the most of the last few weeks of summer! :]
