Godly Women.

As daughters of God, we are called to a life of worship and servanthood, and we must find all of our confidence and affirmation in our relationship with Him.  There are many women throughout the Bible who serve as amazing examples which we have the opportunity to study and follow.  From Sarah to Ruth, Esther to Mary Magdalene, their lives as represented in the Bible are full of trials, hardships, joy, and triumph!  And what drove them to live their lives the ways that they did?  Their intimate relationship with Christ!

This past semester, I led a small group at my college that consisted of eleven young women seeking to become more godly women!  One of the first things that we did was study godly women in the Bible and compile a list of what we believed made them "godly", what qualified them to be chosen/set apart, and then talked about what qualities we believed we possessed and ones we wanted to work on.  It was a very encouraging and insightful exercise, and here is the list we created as a group:

Sarah (Gen. 16-21)
Doubted God could do what He said
Tried to control the situation instead of trusting Him to work it out
Grew in faith and eventually trusted God to provide

Hannah (1 Sam. 1-2)
Trusted the Lord in the midst of trials
Prayed for a child, trusting Him to provide
    Praised Him
Faithful, for which she was blessed

Esther
Trusted in God's placement of her self
Used the talents and gifts that He gave her
Trusted God to do His work through her
"For such a time as this..."

Ruth
    Obedient and faithful
    Not fearful of the unknown
    Selfless and considerate
    "Woman of noble character"

Proverbs 31 Woman
Strength and wisdom - others sought her advice
    Constantly sought growth and knowledge
    Disciplined and diligent
Heart of charity and love for others
    Trusted God above all else
More concerned with integrity and inner beauty
    Sought after God's heart
Confidence in who she is and how He made her

Elizabeth (Luke 1)
Never questioned or hesitated with God
    Trusted Him
    Obedient

Lady with perfume (Matt. 26, Luke 7)
Put herself and her desires at His feet
    Put Christ first
    Selfless

Mary Magdelene (Gospels)
    Delivered from darkness
    Once in bondage and affliction
Put her hope in Christ, who delivered her
Devotion to Christ and nothing held her back
Knew Jesus' voice (He spoke her name)
    No hesitations
Utilized her testimony to encourage others

I hope that this encourages you to spend more time in God's Word, seeking His guidance as you study the lives of these (and other) godly women!  I pray that you would daily strive to spend time in the presence of your King in reverence, worship, and prayer.  More than anything, I pray that you would truly know who you are because of Whose you are!  Stay strong in the Lord, sisters.

"A wife [woman] of noble character who can find?  She is worth far more than rubies.  Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.  She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life... She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.  She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue... Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised."
Proverbs 31:10-12, 25-26, 30
