"Suffering is necessary for the growth of a follower of Christ. Without it, contempt festers - and contempt leads to a stale faith. And a stale faith is of upmost danger! It leads to self-reliance and self-centeredness, and God is no longer your sole focus or source of life. Allow Him to put you through the fire, trusting that the end result will always be worth it. Remember: He's not finished yet!"
Read Psalm 42, and look at the suffering that is being faced by the writer. But also take notice of the act of worship that is happening! In verses 5 and 11, it is written, "Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God." Wow! Imagine what the world would be like if, even in our trials and sufferings, we worshipped God with so much heart.
My encouragement for you today is this: if you're following the storyline of God, remember that suffering is purposeful. Through our challenges, God's glory can rise all the more!
