Hospitable Hearts

This week I have found myself reflecting on the immense amount of hospitality that has been shown to me over the last few years.  For the past three summers, three different families have taken me in and invited me to live with them, insisting I call their home my home.  These three different families in three different cities that all have one huge thing in common: their hearts are full of hospitality because their hearts are full in Christ.

I once did a study on 1 Peter 4, where in verse 9 it is written: "Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay."  I will never forget the way that I felt when I read that verse, nor how inspired I was by it.  I have not yet really had the chance to have a place of my own where I can offer hospitality (aside from a dorm room/apartment), and I look forward to the day when I can open my door to those who need somewhere to stay and something to eat.

To the families who have opened their homes to me, given me (delicious) food to eat, and loved me as their own, I constantly thank God for your example.  You have shown me what it looks like to sacrificially love others out of Christ's love.  Because of your hearts of hospitality, I have tangibly felt and seen the love of God and now pray for a hospitable heart for myself.  I cannot wait for the day that I can open my home to others and tell them stories of all of the ways that you so blessed me in my time of need.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
